An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, as an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), and also referred by several other names, is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard.
The flight of UAVs may be controlled with various kinds of autonomy, thus either by a given degree of remote control from an operator, located on the ground or in another vehicle, or fully autonomously, by onboard computers.
UAVs are often preferred for missions that are too "dull, dirty or dangerous" for manned aircraft.
They have and are mostly found in military and special operation applications. Though, UAVs are increasingly finding uses in civil and recreational applications, such as policing and surveillance, aerial filming, and drone racing.
Surveillance drones or unmanned aerial systems (UASs) raise significant issues for privacy and civil liberties. Drones are capable highly advanced surveillance, and drones already in use by law enforcement can carry various types of equipment including live-feed video cameras, infrared cameras, heat sensors, and radar.
Some military versions can stay in air the hours for hours or days at a time, and their high-tech cameras can scan entire cities, or alternatively, zoom in and read a milk carton from 60,000 feet.
They can also carry wifi crackers and fake cell phone towers that can determine your location or intercept your texts and phone calls. Drone manufacturers even admit they are made to carry “less lethal” weapons such as tasers or rubber bullets.
UAV (DRONE) - UCAV
An unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), also known as a combat drone or drone, is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that is usually armed (aircraft ordnance), such as with missiles.
Aircraft of this type have no onboard human pilot.
These drones are usually under real-time human control, with "the human's role in UCAV system varying according to levels of autonomy of UCAV and data communication requirement(s)"
